Facade Cleaning

Many buildings have been damaged over the years by the use of inappropriate cleaning methods. It is unwise to proceed with cleaning before a sample cleaning regime has been carried out, even when a similar system has been used successfully elsewhere. Sample or trial cleaning, will determine the mildest form of cleaning that will achieve the desired results. Water or chemical strengths and dwell times should be recorded. Any cleaning method that removes the original face of the stone or damages the matrix must be avoided. It is better to sacrifice
‘the perfect clean’ than to damage the fabric.
